Weird Book Covers: Roanoke Warrior

Double Whammy! We got an ... Exploration of the American Frontier... ;)

We have here, both romance and western. This is minus a cowboy, but the white girl more than makes up for that.

Now you might wonder why I picked this. Actually don't wonder because its really rather obvious.

Why is she on her knees?

What I want to point out, as I may have in the past, that westerns are man directed and boy does this cover show it. There are very, very, very few reasons she'd be down on her knees, other than for... Exploring the American Frontier.

IF she wasn't... Exploring the American Frontier, then what could she be doing. Well, there is a fallen log. She could have tripped into his arms.

Perhaps she's tired and wants to lay down, and he wants to keep going.

Perhaps he's teaching her to walk.

Perhaps he's convincing her to give up the search for her contact, and they'll find one at the next department store.

Perhaps he's Native Jesus and she is White Mary Magdalin.

Perhaps I'm rambling.

I am actually interested in reading it, if only to find out how the cover came about though.

Whatever the reason, it was bad timing on the painter/photographers part. It is a slightly appropriate cover. I mean at least he's completely native. Many times they have the whitest man in the world on the cover and say he's half native or something like that. I like this, two minorities on the cover. Especially at that time. Few pretty women... Exploring the American Frontier.

Weird: 2
Awesome: 2
Unique: 4
Cheesy: 5
Fitting to the Book: 4

Conclusion: This is an early Cassie Edwards in the making. More to the point. A good example of ... Exploring the American Frontier.
